Types Of Wood Protection

Leaving your wood unprotected will drastically reduce it’s life span.

There are a few different types of wood protection products that are commonly used to protect wood from the elements, pests, and other forms of damage:

  1. Wood preservatives:

These are chemicals that are applied to wood to protect it from rot, decay, and insect infestations. They can be applied to raw wood before it is used in construction or to existing wood to extend its lifespan.

  2. Stains:

Stains are pigmented products that are applied to wood to protect it from the elements and to enhance its natural color. They can be water-based or oil-based and can be used on both exterior and interior wood surfaces.

  3. Varnishes:

Varnishes are clear, protective coatings that are applied to wood to protect it from moisture and wear. They are typically made from a combination of resin, solvent, and hardener and can be used on both exterior and interior wood surfaces.

  4. Sealants:

Sealants are clear, protective coatings that are applied to wood to protect it from moisture and wear. They are typically made from a combination of resin and solvent and are used on both exterior and interior wood surfaces.

Deck Stain products often contain a combination of UV resistant pigments and resin to give colour and create an impermeable barrier against rain and foot traffic

It's important to choose a wood protection product that is suitable for the type of wood you are working with and the environment in which it will be used. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application and maintenance to ensure the best possible protection for your wood.
